Genmaicha is a green tea blend made with sencha, Japan's most popular tea, and genmai (toasted brown rice). It is well-loved for its playful texture, comforting aroma, and distinct flavor profile, a savory combination of warm, nutty, and umami notes.
Origin: Shizuoka, Japan
Ingredients: green tea, toasted rice
Caffeine level: moderate
I always love this tea in the afternoon because is light but has a roasty flavor that doesn't beg for milk or sweetener.
I love this genmaicha! So delicious, slightly savory while also having a subtle sweetness. I don’t brew it according to instructions, preferring a 10 oz cup steeped at 200F for a couple minutes so that I get to imbibe more. :)
I had the most amazing toasted rice tea many years ago (2012?) at a tea house in San Francisco. Since then, I have been in search of this amazing tea but never have been able to find the same wonderful taste. Until now. Thank you PARU!
The nutty/toasty flavor of the rice kernals is a wonderful complement to the green tea. It's very comforting, and I always find myself going back for more.
