This particular bowl is large enough to be used daily as a yuzamashi to cool down freshly boiled water or as a katakauchi (lipped bowl) to prepare matcha.
As a yuzamashi, boiled water can be poured into the bowl to cool down. Generally, green tea is sensitive to water temperature where too high of a temperature may yield undesired tasting notes.
As a katakuchi, one serving of matcha can be prepared. The spout and handle features allow for an easier preparation for sharing a bowl of matcha or making a matcha latte at home.
