About this experience
This experience is recommended for tea drinkers of all levels. It's an opportunity to drink specialty teas from under-represented tea regions and original blends that we develop at PARU Tea Lab. PARU Founder Amy Truong will guide you through the tasting and careful preparation of up to four seasonal teas.
If you have any requests or if you're celebrating a special occasion, please let us know in advance so that we can prepare for your visit.
Each private tea tasting reservation is a flat rate of $150 total and will be due at booking. This fee accommodates up to four (4) individuals, and the session lasts approximately 45 minutes. Please reach out to us at email@example.com for options for larger groups.

Introduction to Tea
A great starting point for anyone looking to take their first steps into the world of tea. This private tea tasting option will provide you with general tea knowledge and terms of each tea type that will be prepared during the tasting.
Introduction to Southeast Asian Teas
PARU’s focus is sourcing teas from family-owned tea gardens in Southeast Asia and sharing the knowledge passed on from the tea farmers we work with. Guests will learn how teas found in different regions of Southeast Asia can differ and share some similarities.
Introduction to Japanese Teas
Discover the subtle nuances found in different Japanese green teas, bolder flavors in hojicha, and learn about the different grades of matcha found at PARU. We work closely with farmers throughout the year to reserve the best of each type in advance.
Each season can bring about specific flavors found only during a specific time of the year. This private tea tasting option is for those looking for unique flavor profiles as well as those generally interested in learning about the process of harvesting seasonal teas.
Get treated to the founder’s favorites and get a better understanding of what makes these teas special. This private tea tasting option may cover a wide range of tea types and flavors. Please make note in your reservation if there are an allergies or flavors we should steer away from.
Due to COVID-19, we are making the following changes until further notice:
- We will be pausing communal tastings and hosting only private tastings. We will update this page once we are able to resume communal tea tastings.
- All tastings are by appointment only and held at our La Jolla shop.
Our private tastings will continue to be intimate, educational experiences featuring a seasonal selection of teas for guests to discuss and taste.

Honoring a Digital-Free Zone
During the tasting, we recommend keeping Bow Hall a digital-free zone. There will be time following the tea tasting for guests to take pictures if desired.
Preventing the Spread of COVID-19
All staff members will keep properly fitted face coverings on unless actively sipping.
Amy Truong earned a B.A. in International Studies, studied at Meiji Gakuin University in Yokohama, and worked a decade in food, wellness, and operations management before founding PARU in 2017.
