This experience will be an educational and hands-on workshop about wagashi (Japanese confectionary) led by Terumi Koga of WaSweets.
Terumi will guide guests through creating two of their own seasonal nerikiri (a type of wagashi), learning traditional techniques, and discovering the inspiration behind each design. Each will be paired with a carefully selected loose-leaf tea, inviting guests to experience how flavors, textures, and aromas complement one another.
Each guest will enjoy:
- One handcrafted seasonal wagashi paired with freshly prepared matcha.
- Insights into the artistry, history, and seasonal philosophy of wagashi and Japanese tea.
- Two hands-on nerikiri creations.
- Two thoughtfully selected loose-leaf tea pairings.
Ingredients used for this workshop will be plant-based, gluten-free, and dairy-free. Please note that ingredients are prepared in a kitchen where gluten, dairy, and nut ingredients are used.
Your Host
"WaSweets was born from a longing for home (Japan), and a desire for my children to remain connected to their cultural roots as we built a life in the United States. Through wagashi, I awakened the five senses and a deeper appreciation for the seasons, using sweets as a way to pass down what words alone could not. As my children grew and life shifted, crafting sweets became a way to embrace change rather than resist it."
