Oribe ware was named after Furuta Oribe, who studied chanoyu (Japanese tea ceremony) as a disciple of Sen no Rikyu. The green of Oribe is expressed in various ways depending on the kiln. Heüge boldly abandons the slightly old-fashioned designs and colors that come to mind when you think of Oribe ware, and mixed Oribe colors that are more suited to modern dining.
Please note each bowl is made by hand and may vary in size, shape, and appearance from, the beauty of wabi-sabi. This term in Japanese means “a way of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and accepting peacefully the natural cycle of growth and decay.”
About Heüge and Mino, Japan. The Mino region is known as the number one pottery producing area in Japan. With a history of over 1000 years, it has produced a wide variety of ceramics to suit the styles of each era. Among the 15 types of traditional crafts, Setoguro, Kizeto, Shino, and Oribe are pottery types with balanced colors that have spread beyond the name of Mino ware.
Previously celebrated as "Hyougemono" (charming things), the quality of Mino ware has been a part of Japanese dining for over 1000 years.
